WATCH: ‘Ready Player One’ Shines a Light on Director Steven Spielberg With Behind-the-Scenes Trailer

“Ready Player One’s” latest trailer shines the spotlight on the man who shaped 1980s cinema: director Steven Spielberg (“The Post“).

Titled “See the Future,” the trailer goes behind the scenes with novelist Ernest Cline, who tells us about his love of Spielberg’s movies which inspired the themes in his best-selling novel. We then switch over to Spielberg, who believes Cline’s story foreshadows a very real future for Earth’s next generation. Cut with clips from the upcoming film, featuring star Tye Sheridan (“X-Men: Apocalypse”) and more, the trailer reads more like a DVD extra for the hardcore Spielberg fan.

Based on Cline’s novel of the same name, “Ready Player One” follows Wade Watts (Sheridan), a young man who escapes the depressing reality of 2045 America in the virtual reality world of OASIS. Soon, the death of James Halliday (Mark Rylance, “Dunkirk”), OASIS’ founder, sets off a hunt for his massive fortune, hidden in a digital Easter egg somewhere in OASIS. When Wade joins the hunt for the egg, he finds himself hurled into a breakneck adventure through a fantastical universe, danger, and discovery. Will he find the treasure before a more nefarious group lays claim to the fortune and OASIS itself?

Spielberg directs off a script from Cline and Zak Penn (“The Avengers”), with Olivia Cooke (“Me and Earl and the Dying Girl”), Ben Mendelsohn (“Rogue One”), T.J. Miller (“Silicon Valley”) and Simon Pegg (“Star Trek Beyond”) also starring. Spielberg produces alongside Donald De Line (“Wayward Pines”), Kristie Macosko Krieger (“The Post”) and Dan Farah (“The Shannara Chronicles”). Adam Somner (“The Revenant”), Daniel Lupi (“Her”), Chris deFaria (“Watchmen”) and Bruce Berman (“Mad Max: Fury Road”) executive produce. “Ready Player One” hails from Warner Bros. Pictures, Village Roadshow Pictures, and Amblin Entertainment.

“Ready Player One” hits theaters March 30. Watch the new behind-the-scenes trailer, “See the Future,” below.
