The first images of Brie Larson as Captain Marvel have hit the internet, and they’re a little greener than MCU fans anticipated. The photos, which appear to be secretive shots from the set of “Captain Marvel,” feature Larson in a suit the color of Mar-Vell’s suit instead of her trademark blue and red costume. See the photos below.

Now, there are a couple possible reasons behind the color change; as Mar-Vell will be in the upcoming film (played by Jude Law), it’s possible that the costume is a possible tribute to the character, according to EpicStream. It could also be an early prototype of her suit, to be traded in for her trademarks red and blues by the end of the film. As MovieWeb notes, Carol Danvers was originally known as Ms. Marvel, and was only convinced to wear Mar-Vell’s colors by Captain America after his death. The green suit Larson is wearing could even be Mar-Vell’s original suit that he arrived on Earth in, or a suit taken off a Kree soldier after she gained her powers. Either way? It’s not what anyone expected to see Captain Marvel wearing, and only heightens interests in the upcoming origin solo film (and “Avengers 4,” as Captain Marvel’s colors could tie into the impending Infinity War).
“Captain Marvel” is helmed by directing team Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck (“Half Nelson”) off a screenplay from Geneva Robertson-Dworet (“Tomb Raider”), with Ben Mendelsohn (“Mississippi Grind”) and Samuel L. Jackson (“Captain America: The Winter Soldier”) also set to star. The film is set in the 1990s at the tail end of the Cold War, with the superhero fighting the Skrulls, an alien race with devious designs on planet Earth. Captain Marvel is really Carol Danvers, a former Air Force pilot who, after an incident with an alien, gains super-strength, energy projection and a fantastic flying ability. The film will be the first solo female superhero film from Marvel.
“Captain Marvel” premieres March 9, 2019.
