HBO has just released its first Super Bowl spot in 20 years, and it couldn’t have picked a better series to spotlight. “Westworld,” a critically-acclaimed sci-fi hit from the network, premiered its first full trailer ahead of Season 2.
The series stars Jeffrey Wright (“The Hunger Games” series), Evan Rachel Wood (“The Ides of March”), Thandie Newton (“Rogue”), Ed Harris (“mother!”), James Marsden (“The Female Brain”) and Jimmi Simpson (“House of Cards”). Newcomers Gustaf Skarsgard (“Vikings”), Fares Fares (“Tyrant”), Katja Herbers (“The Leftovers”) and Neil Jackson also join the upcoming season. The series is set in an adult Wild West theme park where visitor roleplay with android “hosts” who’ve begun to gain sentience and no longer want to be controlled. The trailer is directed by series co-creator Jonathan Nolan, according to EW. But be wary of taking the trailer at its word, as THR reports that some of that footage won’t even be in the upcoming season.
“Westworld” returns April 22. Watch the new trailer below.
