Damian Lewis has signed on to play former Toronto mayor Rob Ford in the thriller “Run This Town.” The news comes from The Hollywood Reporter.
The plot details are being kept under wraps. The Hollywood Reporter article only included these rumored details:
“…The film is understood to follow a reporter (Ben Platt) who attempts to expose a scandal involving a politician who doesn’t play by the rules. The politician’s aides, played by Nina Dobrev and Mena Massoud, try their best to handle him and keep the story suppressed.”
The film is written and directed by Ricky Tollman. After working in TV series and movies, this is his first effort directing a feature film.
Toronto Mayor Rob Ford made international headlines between 2010 to 2014. His proclivity toward public intoxication and substance abuse turned him into a frequent subject of front page news as well as gossip sites. The most well-known instance involved a video of Ford smoking crack cocaine, which prompted a visit to rehab. Ford died in 2016.
