Amazon Renews ‘Jack Ryan’ Series for Second Season Ahead of First Season Premiere

Amazon Studios

Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan” debuts on Amazon Prime on August 31, but the streaming network has already confirmed season two.

The series is based on the novels by Tom Clancy. Jack Ryan is a CIA analyst who becomes a reluctant hero as he takes out terror cells around the world.

Tom Clancy’s novels have been adapted into films. Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford, Ben Affleck, and Chris Pine have all played the hero. This time around, it is John Krasinski who sets out to save the world.

Krasinski, of course, directed and stars in the reigning box office champion, “A Quiet Place.” Within days of the film’s highly successful opening, Krasinski announced his next directorial project. This could be what moved Amazon to lock him into the second season.

Amy Powell, President of Paramount Television who produces the series, said in the statement:

“From day one we only had one actor on our casting board for this series – John Krasinski. We are so excited that he is our Jack Ryan and we get to make another season with this incredibly talented team. We have been blown away by what our whole team has delivered for season one and we can’t wait for everyone to see it this summer.”

Jennifer Salke, Head of Amazon Studios also said:

“With so much early anticipation for ‘Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan’ from our customers and personally having the pleasure to preview the exhilarating, action-packed first season, we are excited to greenlight a second season of the series months ahead of its debut. The new season will take our unexpected hero to a new, exciting and dangerous world.”

The series was created and is executive produced by Carlton Cuse (“Lost”) and Graham Roland (“Fringe”). Cuse added his thoughts:

“We’re thrilled that the first season has generated so much enthusiasm. We couldn’t be happier to be working with Amazon and to be filming very near the Amazon to tell the next great Jack Ryan adventure.”

Wendell Pierce (“Selma”), also stars and will return for season 2. Other cast members include Abbie Cornish (“Three Billboards outside Ebbing, Missouri”), and Ali Suliman (“Lone Survivor”), but their fates are as yet unknown.

Paramount Television, Genre Arts, Platinum Dunes, and Skydance Television are all co-producing the series.

Season One debuts on Amazon on August 31. Season Two will begin filming this summer.
