The Bluth family is ready for more in the official trailer for the fifth season of “Arrested Development.”
“Arrested Development” is the story of the ultimate dysfunctional family, the Bluths, of Newport Beach, California. The series began when patriarch George Bluth was arrested for running a Ponzi scheme. This left the only (mostly) sane son, Michael, to keep the family and the family business together.
Jason Bateman stars as Michael. He stars with Will Arnett, Portia de Rossi, Tony Hale, David Cross, Michael Cera, Alia Shawkat, Jessica Walter, and Jeffrey Tambor as the rest of the family. Ron Howard narrates the misadventures.
Last week, creator and showrunner Mitchell Hurwitz teased that the fifth season would be released, “Like real soon. Like, if you knew when, you would not be wrong to be thinking ‘why are we all just hearing about this now?'”
The series spent three critically acclaimed seasons on Fox. In 2006, the network finally had to accept that it just wasn’t ready to connect to a mass audience. Netflix eventually picked it up and revived it with a fourth semi-original season in 2013. Many fans agreed it was great to see the family back together, but that the series had lost some of the touches that once made it work so well. But that didn’t dissuade anyone from immediately wanting to know if and when there would be a season 5.
Along with the non-specific season 5 announcement last week, Hurwitz also announced that he had gone back into the editing room to re-cut season 4. The remix, called “Fateful Consequences,” was released on Netflix last Friday, in celebration of Cinco de Cuatro, an event at the center of season 4.
All 17 episodes of season 5 will be released on May 29.
