A Boba Fett Film is Coming From James Mangold

Among the many characters who populate the Star Wars universe, few have the following that Boba Fett does. Despite minimal screen time, the bounty hunter is one that has captivated minds. In this era of side films to the main saga, Fett is an obvious character to tackle. Josh Trank was once supposedly working on a movie about the bounty hunter, but that obviously never came to pass. Well, now it appears that Kathleen Kennedy and company at Lucasfilm are making moves to bring the villain his own solo (no pun intended) outing. As “Solo: A Star Wars Story” hits theaters, the Star Wars franchise is about to grow.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Boba Fett is the next standalone project coming to the world of Star Wars. Not only that, James Mangold will be writing and directing the movie. Mangold is coming off of the smash hit and Oscar nominated “Logan,” so he’s white hot right now. The Academy Award nominee can now focus on Fett and building a compelling story around the character. “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” and “Solo: A Star Wars Story” have set the template. Now, Mangold will begin work on another.

Here’s a bit from THR’s report:

James Mangold is writing and will direct a Star Wars standalone movie centered on Boba Fett, the feared bounty hunter and fan favorite character, The Hollywood Reporter has exclusively learned.

The reveal comes as Disney and Disney-owned Lucasfilm prepare the release of the latest Star Wars standalone movie, Solo: A Star Wars Story. Solo, which opens Friday, is the second movie to be spun from the main Star Wars line — Rogue One: A Star Wars Story was the first — but it is the first to focus on a particular character.

Lucasfilm is developing movies on a slew of characters including Obi-Wan Kenobi, which has Stephen Daldry in negotiations to direct although no writers working on a script.

Boba Fett is a fan favorite, to say the least, so this is very exciting news. Whether it’s called “Boba Fett: A Star Wars Story” or something else, it’s coming. Stay tuned for plenty more on the film when we have it.
