Sony Pictures released a second trailer for the upcoming thriller, “Searching.”
John Cho stars as David, a dad whose 16-year-old daughter Margot goes missing. When the police still have no leads some 36+ hours later, he takes up the search using her laptop and contacting everyone she has ever met. The story unfolds via webcams and smartphones as David’s search leads from one mystery to another.
Cho became well known to many through his role in the “Harold and Kumar” films. He also starred as Sulu in the rebooted “Star Trek” franchise, and recently starred in the TV series, “The Exorcist.”
Michelle La plays Margot, and we mostly see her through videos and photos throughout the film. She appeared on “Mom” and “Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life.” This is her first feature film.
Debra Messing plays Detective Rosemary Vick, who works closely with David in the search for his daughter. Messing appeared in films like “Along Came Polly” and “The Wedding Date,” but is best known for her role as Grace Adler on “Will & Grace.”
Aneesh Chaganty directed and co-wrote “Searching” with Sev Ohanian. Ohanian produced “Fruitvale Station,” among other projects. Chaganty is the director of several short films. This is his first feature.
“Searching” premiered at Sundance in January. It went on to at festivals in San Francisco, Chicago, Sydney, and Edinburgh.
Sony Pictures acquired the film, and will release it in the US under their Screen Gems label. Some other recent Screen Gems films include “Don’t Breathe,” “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies,” and “Proud Mary.”
“Searching” is bound for theaters on August 3.
