Universal Pictures has unveiled the trailer for the upcoming film, “Welcome to Marwen.”
Academy Award nominee Steve Carell stars in this story, based on the real life of Mark Hogancamp, a military veteran who is brutally attacked and beaten outside a bar in his small town.
When a devastating attack shatters Mark Hogancamp (Carell) and wipes away all memories, no one expected recovery. Putting together pieces from his old and new life, Mark meticulously creates a wondrous town where he can heal and be heroic. As he builds an astonishing art installation-a testament to the most powerful women he knows-through his fantasy world, he draws strength to triumph in the real one.
As you will see in the trailer below, the film uses both live action and animation to tell the story.
Steve Carell has starred in many films, including “Little Miss Sunshine,” “The Big Short,” and “Crazy Stupid Love,” to name a few. He earned an Academy Award nomination for his leading role as eccentric billionaire John DuPont in “Foxcatcher.”
Robert Zemeckis directs and co-wrote the script with Caroline Thompson. “Welcome to Marwen” was adapted from the documentary, Marwencol, which details Hogancamp’s journey.
Zemeckis is the Academy Award winning director of “Forrest Gump” and “Back to the Future.” He also directed “Cast Away,” “Flight,” and “The Walk.”
Thompson has written many weird and whimsical tales. Her film credits include “Edward Scissorhands,” “The Addams Family,” “The Nightmare Before Christmas,” and “The Corpse Bride.”
Janelle Monáe (“Hidden Figures”), Leslie Mann (“Blockers”), Diane Kruger (“In the Fade”), and Gwendoline Christie (“Star Wars: The Last Jedi”) also star.
“Welcome to Marwen” arrives in theaters on November 21.
