Over the last two years of television, “This is Us” has become a phenomenon. Led by the brilliant Sterling K. Brown, the ensemble series has been one of the most dramatic, yet rewarding series on network TV in years. The show is run by Dan Fogelman, previously known for his work on Disney films like “Bolt,” “Cars 2” and “Tangled.” He also directed the underrated “Danny Collins” starring Al Pacino in 2015. Fogelman’s star is on the rise, and his new film looks to cement his status.
Today we got the new trailer for Fogelman’s “Life Itself” from Amazon Pictures. The film follows a large ensemble of characters through life events. The trailer puts considerable emphasis on Oscar Isaac, who continues to blossom into one of the best stars in Hollywood. The cast is full of heavy hitters, including Mandy Patinkin, Annette Bening, Samuel L. Jackson, Olivia Wilde and more. Check out the new trailer below.
The IMDB plot is as follows:
As a young New York couple goes from college romance to marriage and the birth of their first child, the unexpected twists of their journey create reverberations that echo over continents and through lifetimes.
The film continues to build steam as a potential awards contender. Given the ensemble cast, there’s potential for SAG and critics group recognition throughout the year. We also predicted the film’s upside could make Fogelman the next James L. Brooks. The focus on Isaac seems to position him as the performer to watch, although the presence of Olivia Cooke and Antonio Banderas on the posters makes them performers to watch as well. The September release date is a little concerning, but the film has an opportunity to gain plenty of traction if the quality is there.
