One of the surprise hits of 2015 was “Creed,” a soft reboot of the “Rocky” franchise. The film featured Michael B. Jordan in a breakout role as Adonis Creed, son of the famed boxer Apollo Creed from the beloved boxing franchise. While handling some nostalgia, director Ryan Coogler told an extremely personal story through the lens of the Rocky legend. It gave Jordan a true career breakout moment and earned Sylvester Stallone an Oscar nomination. With “Creed II” in production, audiences are expecting more this time around. Today we got some first looks at the movie.
Today, MGM released stills from the film that showcase Jordan as the star. They also give us a good look at Stallone as Rocky, set to reprise his role again. Jordan looks extremely focused in both images, showcasing his athleticism in one. He’s one of the rawest actors in the industry right now, which gives him the ability to wear his emotions on his sleeve. It’ll be interesting to see how Jordan performs with a new director at the helm. “Creed II” is directed by Steven Caple Jr., who takes over for Coogler.
This year has been a good year so far for Jordan. He continues to be in the conversation for an Oscar nomination after playing Killmonger in “Black Panther” this spring. He also led an HBO film, “Fahrenheit 451,” which earned 5 Emmy nominations, including Outstanding TV Movie. The young actor continues his upward ascent into superstardom. “Creed II” is sure to help that climb.
