WATCH: ‘All About Nina’ Features Mary Elizabeth Winstead as a Stand-Up Comic

There have been a few films and television shows focused on the life of stand-up comedians. From “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” to “The Comedian” in 2016, we’ve seen some mixed results. One actress who seems primed to continue her climb is Mary Elizabeth Winstead. The actress has continually picked interesting projects throughout her career. She drew a lot of attention for “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World” from geeks, “Fargo” for television fans, and “Smashed” for awards pundits. Now she takes center stage in the trailer for “All About Nina,” which debuted at Tribeca earlier this year.

Winstead seems to be on her A-game here, and our own Joey Magidson has championed her performance in “All About Nina” earlier this year. The film follows Nina (Winstead) as she moves to Los Angeles to continue her standup career. She leaves behind bad relationships and opens herself up to new experiences. This includes a relationship with Rafe (Common) who seems like the perfect guy. As she struggles through her personal issues and past, her worlds collide. If Winstead does prove to make some waves in the acting races, it will be a welcomed sight this season.

“All About Nina” is the feature debut of Eva Vives, and it looks to be a solid one. Vives, a Spanish filmmaker, has worked on several shorts before, but her expansion to feature films paid off. Vives also wrote the screenplay, so she’s clearly a talented woman. More voices like hers are obviously a good thing in the industry. Vives rounds out the cast with experienced comedians and actors. This includes Chance CrawfordBeau BridgesJay Mohr, and Camryn Manheim. With pretty strong reviews out of Tribeca and The Orchard on board, expect to hear a lot more about “All About Nina” moving forward.
