Yesterday, we received casting news for many of the supporting characters in “Top Gun: Maverick,” set to release in July of 2019. It was a good move for the film to get younger and more diverse, but it was unlikely the casting was complete. Today we got another big announcement, adding more stars to the film. Among those actors are Ed Harris, Jon Hamm, and Lewis Pullman. The trio is another strong addition to the film as it continues to add depth to its cast.
“Top Gun: Maverick” will star Tom Cruise, reprising his iconic character from the 1986 action film. Miles Teller, Glenn Powell, and Jennifer Connelly have all been set to join. Val Kilmer will also reprise the character of Iceman. Adding the three actors in Hamm, Harris, and Pullman will help fill out the core cast of the film. It certainly adds some gravitas to the film as well.
Each of the three actors have had a good 2018 so far. Hamm starred in “Beruit,” which was well reviewed despite some controversy. Harris completed another good season of “Westworld,” and showed a strong performance in “Kodachrome” early this year. He also received an Emmy nomination for “Westworld” this year. Meanwhile, Pullman has quickly emerged as an actor to watch. The son of Bill Pullman, Lewis was one of the few great parts of “The Stranger: Prey at Night” early this year. He will also appear in “Bad Times at the El Royale” with Hamm later this year. With the three actors added to “Top Gun: Maverick,” we continue to see the project is drawing talent. Hopefully, the film breaks the belated sequel curse.
