Zendaya Releases Original Song for Upcoming ‘Smallfoot’ Animated Feature

Animated features are often the source of original song submissions at the Oscars. Obviously the Disney and Pixar films have won original song categories in years past, but they’re not the only ones to make a run at a gold statue. “Happy,” “Everything is Awesome” and “Accidentally in Love” have all been highlights of Oscar night. The most recent film looking to join the party is “Smallfoot,” which features several actors with musical talent. Chief among them is Zendaya, whose original song “Wonderful Life” features in the film.

Zendaya has quickly begun to pick up steam as a star. While she began her career as a Disney Channel star, she’s picked up enough roles to make that an afterthought. Between “The Greatest Showman,” “Spider-man: Homecoming” and her budding music career, she’s becoming a star. “Wonderful Life” is the second original song released for the film. The first was “Finally Free” by Niall Horan of One Direction fame. With two songs already released, it would be surprising if we don’t get one or two more before the film releases.

“Smallfoot” follows the story of Yeti named Migo (Channing Tatum) who lives in a society that does not believe in humans. However, when Migo goes on to find “Smallfoot” he finds himself on an adventure. The film, directed by Kary Kirkpatrick (“Over the Hedge“) and Jason Reisig (directorial debut), looks like an adorable Fall release. In addition to Zendaya, the film also stars James CordonDanny DeVitoGina Rodriguez, LeBron James and Common. The cast looks fun, and with Warner Brothers animation building credit through the “LEGO” franchise, this could be their breakthrough at Oscar.
