Actor Taron Egerton continues to shine as one of Hollywood’s brightest young stars. The actor first came to prominence as an action hero in “The Kingsman: The Secret Service” from Matthew Vaughn. Since then, Egerton showed off his singing chops in “Sing” from Illumination. He was also fairly charismatic in the role of “Eddie the Eagle” in the sports comedy. While Egerton did not get the role of a young Han Solo, he’s still been pegged as someone to watch in the future. Now, he’s about to take on a musical icon in Elton John for “Rocketman” in 2019.
The film will chronicle the career of the Elton John, who rose to prominence during the 1970s. Over his career, the musician became an icon and a legend. He scored 57 Top 40 singles in the United States, including 9 number one hits. The only artist with more Top 40 songs in US History is Elvis Presley. The pianist also won an Oscar in 1994 for writing “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” for Disney’s “The Lion King.”
Egerton looks like a spitting image of John, showcasing a glitzy image of the icon. It’s a fun and exciting turn for Egerton to potentially stretch his ability and charisma. What makes Egerton’s casting funny is the fact that John actually had an extended role in “The Kingsman: The Golden Circle” last summer. With the time spent together, it feels likely that Eggerton picked up some insight on how to play the musician. What also makes this film exciting is that Dexter Fletcher received the go-ahead to tell an “uncensored” version of John’s life. This could result in some very interesting dramatic moments, depending on how the film chooses to tell the story of the icons life. It may not become an Oscar player, but expect this one to draw a crowd.
