One of the big unknowns in the Oscar season this year feels within our grasp. “Vice,” the official title for the upcoming film from Adam McKay about Vice-President Dick Cheney, looms large in the awards season. Not only did McKay take home an Oscar for his last film, “The Big Short,” but a good number of Oscar players feature in “Vice” as important characters. Chief among them remains Christian Bale, who seems as if he will disappear into another role. With the presence of the film on the horizon, Annapurna Pictures, and Adam McKay released a short teaser today before they release a larger triler tomorrow.

The short teaser does not give us much to work on, but still represents our true first look at the character. As expected, Bale carries the mannerisms and physicality of Cheney over the years. The makeup work looks very strong, so don’t be surprised if this one finds a way into that race quickly as well. Two other images of Cheney were released today as well, which further show off the transformation that Bale will embark on over the course of the film.
Also of note, we get very quick glimpses of both 5-time Oscar nominee Amy Adams and of last year’s Supporting Actor winner, Sam Rockwell. Adams plays Laura Cheney, the wife of Dick Cheney, while Rockwell slates into the film as President George W. Bush. The music playing over the teaser brings out a swagger and pop style that made “The Big Short” a hit for many.
