WATCH: ‘The LEGO MOVIE 2: The Second Part’ Releases a New Trailer

One of the surprise hits of 2014 was the animated “The LEGO Movie” from Warner Bros. Animation. The story of Emmett “The Special” was both emotionally effective and family friendly. It was a creative blend of dozens of IPs in a palatable and fun story. While the movie still grabbed a nomination for Best Original Song, it’s exclusion from Best Animated Featured turned a lot of heads. At the same time, “The Lego Movie” represented the rise of Chris Pratt as a movie star. Now, we’re getting a new story featuring Pratt and the impressive voice cast that somehow got more talented. Today, Warner Bros released another trailer for “The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part.”

The new “LEGO Movie” looks to split up some of our fan-favorite characters and introduce some new blood. Chief among the new characters is Tiffany Haddish as the Queen of the Sis-Star System. She shapeshifts, allowing for some interesting morphing animation. The trailer also shows a second character for Pratt to play, this one modeled on his successful movie career. Rex Dangervest trains Raptors, is a Cowboy, and saves the Galaxy. Glad to see the new movie has not lost its meta-quality.

Also on board for the new LEGO adventure are Elizabeth Banks, Alison Brie, Charlie Day, Will Arnett, and Nick Offerman. Haddish will voice newcomer Queen Watevra Wa-Nabi, with Stephanie Beatriz and Maya Rudolph also joining in the fun. Since the first film, there have been other LEGO films in theaters. “The LEGO Ninjago Movie” and “The LEGO Batman Movie” both missed Oscar nominations as well. Hopefully, a return to the original character can help. However, “The Billion Brick Race” is technically on the schedule for next year, so it is possible that dueling LEGO films could hurt both films.
