‘Bumblebee’ To Screen on December 8th for Amazon Prime Users

For fans of the “Transformers” franchise, Christmas has come a little early. That is, if you have Amazon Prime. The most recent entry into the franchise known for big robots and even bigger explosions has officially announced an early screening day for the film. Following in the footsteps of “Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation,” “Bumbleebee” will also host a screening for Amazon Prime Members. The screening is set to take place on December 8th, 2018, a full two weeks before the feature opens December 21st.

According to Deadline, the deal was announced today from Paramount and Amazon Prime. This is not a small release either. In fact, “Bumblebee” will release in about 1000 theaters for the one day. The new film comes from Travis Knight, who directed “Kubo and the Two Strings” in 2017. The new entry is also set years before the Michael Bay/Shia LaBeouf franchise. Rolling the story back to the 1980’s and giving the story a female protagonist with Hailee Steinfeld looks to reset the Transformers” franchise in a big way.

The new blockbuster may also find a way as a late entry into the Oscar race. Visual Effects has been weak this year, and the sound team behind “A Quiet Placehas already earned sound nominations from the franchise. With good word of mouth from a December screening, it could potentially find a leg up on the crowded Christmas box office. With other tentpoles, like “Aquaman” also competing for the box office crown, “Bumbleebee”needs all the help it can get. The spin-off for the fan favorite character will surely bring renewed interest to the franchise. The question now is what will the film do with that renewed attention.
