Business is booming for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The MCU continues to move forward, especially as the awards season gets going. Both “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Black Panther” have already grabbed critics nominations. Producer Kevin Feige continues to push for his first Best Picture nomination, and there’s a real chance he gets it this year. However, the MCU continues to build in the meantime, and the next project is just around the corner. “Captain Marvel” released its first trailer a few months ago, drawing strong reviews from most of the internet. The first female-focused story of the MCU brings Brie Larson into the fold, and the Oscar-winning actress is game for the challenge.
Larson’s Danvers was an air force pilot before gaining her powers. She was already a powerful woman far before getting intergalactic powers. The poster showcases some of the cosmic energy that allows her to wield a nearly unprecedented power. Unlike many Marvel posters that cram as many heroes onto the image as possible, this one is about Larson and the history she’ll make for the comic book universe.
In addition to Larson, the film has a large ensemble around her. Chief among the additional cast is an expanded role for Samuel L. Jackson, who has been absent for a while from the larger MCU. The new film seems to put him into a lead role, as he helps Carol Danvers remember her life before she became a superheroine. Ben Mendelsohn continues to showcase his own talent, this time as a shapeshifting alien leader of the Skrulls. With a 1990’s timeline, and a stellar cast, “Captain Marvel” will soar to the top of the box office in 2019.
