BAFTA Adds 368 More Members – Jodie Whittaker, Hugh Grant, Warwick Davis and More Join

For awards pundits, it is always exciting to see which members of the industry will vote on the prizes we hold so close to our hearts. One of the major precursors that warrants attention is BAFTA. The British Academy of Film and Television Arts has served as one of the most interesting prizes of the year for decades. For years, the ceremony took place after Oscar and could be more idiosyncratic. Now, it helps boost films in various categories, especially below-the-line. So who votes on the prizes? Well a mixture of industry professionals, not dissimilar to AMPAS. Like AMPAS, BAFTA chose to announce their new members in 2018, so look for your favorite names in the list below!

A few stand out to us this year. Two that are quite shocking are Warwick Davis and Hugh Grant. While Davis may not be a household name, the actor has built a long and respected career in the industry. He headlined films like “Willow,” was included in the entire “Harry Potter” franchise, and even had his own HBO series. Grant is also a BAFTA winner and is one of the most recognizable British actors in the world. Seems like he was an odd person to leave off for so many years, or it simply may have been that he rejected previous tries to bring him into the voting body. Jodie Whittaker, the current Doctor on “Doctor Who,” has joined the group. Whittaker has received praise from many for her portrayal on the series. Even Willem Dafoe, an acclaimed actor of many decades, will now join the group. Check out the full list of new members below.
