Streaming Circuit (2/01/19) – Netflix Delivers Sundance Hit ‘Velvet Buzzsaw’ with Jake Gyllenhaal

Welcome back to the Streaming Circuit, a look at what’s going to be available each week to watch in the comfort of your own home. For those of you hoping to find some quality viewing options without leaving the house, this is the column for you!

Best Bet

Velvet Buzzsaw” (Netflix Film)

Hot off of a debut at the Sundance Film Festival, this satirical horror flick comes to the streaming giant. Dan Gilroy reunites with Jake Gyllenhaal and Rene Russo for something that again appears rather creepy, but wholly original. The Trailer caught the internet’s attention, but luckily the wait to see this wasn’t a long one. Carnage set within the hifalutin world of art? Yes, please. Karen saw it a few days ago in Park City and had this to say:

Whatever you think you know about “Velvet Buzzsaw,” you don’t. This is a film that can’t be described. It simply has to be experienced for all the senses.

Velvet Buzzsaw” got some strong buzz at Sundance. Now, you can check it out for yourself. As of February 1st, it’s streaming on Netflix!

Catch It Before It’s Gone

Clerks” (Netflix)

Kevin Smith‘s directorial debut, today is the last day to catch it on the streaming waves. The cult classic launched his career, as well as gave a whole generation of filmmakers the idea that they could direct. Many tried, but few succeeded in capturing what Smith captured. Besides being a great time capsule, the movie is utterly hilarious. Some of Smith’s best gags are contained within. It’s a beloved comedy for a reason. Roger Ebert was a big fan, writing the following back in the day:

Clerks is so utterly authentic that its heroes have never heard of their generation.

“Clerks” is a must watch, if you’ve somehow never seen it. It completely holds up. February 1st marks its last day on Netflix, so get around to it ASAP!
