With the VES VFX Awards going down, which visual effects have been your all time favorites?
Classic films obviously had less in the way of technology to utilize, but if you watch the original “King Kong,” you have to imagine how blown away audiences were by the sight of Kong. That gives it a nostalgic charm. The same goes for “2001: A Space Odyssey” and the way it depicted zero gravity. It may be commonplace to see similar visual achievements now, but for their time, they shocked and amazed. That’s why they’ve stood the test of time and are favorites for so many.
In the modern times, you can take your pick from wonder to wonder. Gollum in “The Lord of the Rings” franchise, Thanos just this past year in “Avengers: Infinity War.” The world James Cameron conjured up in “Avatar.” Before that even, the recreation of the doomed boat by Cameron in “Titanic.” These have all furthered the visual effects craft in new and exciting ways, amassing a legion of fans in the process. It’s easy to take modern effects for granted, but the visual wonders of special effects are a big reason why some movies have been favorites to audiences the world over.
So, fill us in with the details. In honor of the Visual Effects Society giving out their awards, what visual effect is your favorite? Let us know!
