“Zombieland 2” is not only fast approaching but has some new cast members joining the fun. According to Variety, comedian Thomas Middleditch has just signed on. Both Zoey Deutch and Rosario Dawson previously joined the cast. Now, Middleditch is the latest name to sign on. He joins original cast members Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone, and Abigail Breslin.
Thomas Middleditch is best known for the series “Silicon Valley” as Richard Hendricks. He received his first Primetime Emmy nomination for his performance back in 2016. His more recent film credits include “Tag” and “Replicas” which came out last year. He’ll also appear in “Godzilla: King of the Monsters” which comes this May. But having this film on his slate means he could have an exciting 2019.
As of right now, story details on “Zombieland 2” (or “Zombieland: Double Tap” as it’s now called) remain mostly unknown. The sequel follows the original quartet facing a new breed of zombies. They also run into a new band of human survivors. So far, those are the only details.
In addition, the film has already begun production. It started filming last month and will be released in October. Its release will honor the tenth anniversary of the first film which also had an October release.
Ruben Fleischer, who helmed the first film, is returning to the director’s chair. He reteams with original writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick who are known for their work on the “Deadpool” films. Fleischer is also coming off “Venom” which was a worldwide success. However, whether he’ll helm its sequel still feels up in the air. As previously reported, “Zombieland 2” getting fast tracked leaves his involvement on “Venom 2” uncertain.
