Tomorrow is Valentine’s Day. Whether you’re single or in a relationship, love will be all around you. Depending on who you are, you may want to embrace or ignore it. As a way of taking both sides, it seems like a good time to talk about romantic comedies. What are some of your favorites? Do you have a specific one in mind to watch during the holiday? We’re all ears. Clue us into what makes you laugh as well as catches you right in the heart.
There are tons of classics to choose from. “Annie Hall,” “Jerry Maguire,” “Moonstruck,” “Pretty Woman,” and “When Harry Met Sally” are just a few that immediately spring to mind. You can even take it all the way back to “The Apartment,” “The Philadelphia Story,” or “Roman Holiday.” Romantic comedies come in all shapes and sizes, with the best of the genre often transcending simple descriptions.
If you lean more modern with your picks, last year offered a huge one in “Crazy Rich Asians.” A few years ago, “Sleeping with Other People” brought a breath of fresh air to the genre. The notion that romantic comedies aren’t being made anymore is completely false. The quality may have gone down, but offerings like the two just mentioned give the genre life. There’s also any number of Judd Apatow helmed or produced romantic comedies, for those who want the emphasis to be on the latter. Just because it’s raunchy doesn’t mean it isn’t also romantic, after all.
Here we go lovebirds. With Valentine’s Day tomorrow, what are your favorite romantic comedies? Let us know!
