The cast of “Dune” just keeps getting bigger. Recently, Josh Brolin joined the growing cast. Now, according to the Hollywood Reporter, Jason Momoa is the latest name to potentially join as well. So, they not only have Thanos joining but they might also get Aquaman. However, Jason Momoa is still in negotiations.
Based on the novel by Frank Herbert, “Dune” takes place on a distant planet called Arrakis. The story follows Paul Atreides and his attempt to control Arrakis along with a key export. However, a galactic emperor betrays Paul and his family. Paul then decides to fight back and reclaim his rule.
If he’s officially cast, Jason Momoa would play Duncan Idaho, a swordsman loyal to the Atreides family. He would join Timothee Chalamet who plays Paul Atreides. In addition, names like Oscar Isaac, Zendaya, Charlotte Rampling, Javier Bardem, and Rebecca Ferguson make up the ensemble.
Jason Momoa is currently coming off the success of “Aquaman,” the first DC film to hit the billion dollar mark. So, this would be an exciting follow-up project. He also has the upcoming Apple TV series “See” in the works. As a result, he’s returning to TV after previously starring in “Game of Thrones” as Khal Drogo. However, his potential involvement in “Dune” is an indication of his rising film stardom.
Denis Villeneuve is at the film’s helm. In addition, he, Eric Roth, and Jon Spaihts co-wrote the screenplay. As for filming, it is set to potentially take place in the spring. Since they have yet to start filming, there should be more casting announcements on the horizon.
