Denis Villeneuve’s ‘Dune’ Set for November 2020 Release

The hotly anticipated remake of “Dune” finally has a release date. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros. is prepping for a release on Nov. 20, 2020. In addition, it will open in IMAX and 3D. So, “Dune” should feel even more like a moviegoing event than it already does.

Based on the 1984 novel by Frank Herbert, “Dune” is set on a distant planet called Arrakis. It follows the Atreides family who attempt to seize control over Arrakis. They also attempt to control a substance coveted throughout the galaxy. Eventually, they become betrayed by a galactic emperor. It is then up to the son, Paul Atreides, to lead a rebellion and reclaim the family’s rule.

Timothee Chalamet will play Paul Atreides and headline the ensemble cast. Names like Rebecca Ferguson, Dave Bautista, Javier Bardem, Josh Brolin, and Charlotte Rampling have officially signed on. Also, Oscar Isaac and Zendaya are apparently still in talks. Plus, as previously mentioned, Jason Momoa is in negotiations as well.

Given the source material and the talent involved, there are probably those that want “Dune” to come ASAP. The 2020 release date certainly makes the film feel as far away as Arrakis. However, this isn’t the first time director Denis Villeneuve has made such an event film. He previously helmed “Blade Runner 2049” which financially faltered but still garnered immense praise. Also, it generated plenty of anticipation before its release. So, this project could be worth the similar wait.

Meanwhile, Warner Bros. has also announced release dates for a few titles coming this year. The Sundance sensation “Blinded by the Light” will come out on Aug. 14th. In addition, “Motherless Brooklyn,” directed by Edward Norton, will be released on Nov. 1st.
