With only days to go until the Academy Awards, AMPAS is starting to get down to the business of announcing who will be presenting the various categories. As we know by now, all 24 Oscar categories will be shown during the telecast, and last year’s winners won’t be passed over for supposedly bigger names. Today, a dozen more names were added to the show. Slowly but surely, we’re moving towards what will resemble a normal Academy Award ceremony.
In a press release emailed out, twelve names have been announced. They are Elsie Fisher, Danai Gurira, Brian Tyree Henry, Michael B. Jordan, Michael Keaton, Helen Mirren, John Mulaney, Tyler Perry, Pharrell Williams, Krysten Ritter, Paul Rudd, and Michelle Yeoh. It’s an eclectic mix, largely made up of actors and actresses who were in some of last year’s biggest hits, but not exclusively. Notably, it’s a diverse dozen, which is something the Academy needs to be continually conscious of.
This is part of what the press release had to say:
Los Angeles, CA – Stars continue to line up to present on the Oscars® – the year’s most-watched, live entertainment event – on Sunday, February 24, announced show producer Donna Gigliotti and co-producer and director Glenn Weiss. The Oscars air live on the ABC Television Network, and is broadcast in more than 225 countries and territories.
“We are excited to welcome these amazing artists and filmmakers to the show,” said Gigliotti and Weiss. “They bring excitement, momentum, and elements of surprise to this year’s Oscars.”
These follow the previously announced group of Awkwafina, Javier Bardem, Angela Bassett, Chadwick Boseman, Emilia Clarke, Daniel Craig, Laura Dern, Chris Evans, Tina Fey, Allison Janney, Samuel L. Jackson, Stephan James, Keegan-Michael Key, Brie Larson, KiKi Layne, Jennifer Lopez, James McAvoy, Melissa McCarthy, Frances McDormand, Jason Momoa, Gary Oldman, Sarah Paulson, Amy Poehler, Sam Rockwell, Maya Rudolph, Amandla Stenberg, Charlize Theron, Tessa Thompson and Constance Wu. These names will be who are on hand to help celebrate the best in 2018 cinema.
These are just the latest names announced by the Academy. We could still see more presenters announced, as well as some surprise guests. For now, this is who Oscar will be putting on stage, sans a host, of course.
