Allison Janney and Gary Oldman To Present Best Actor, Frances McDormand and Sam Rockwell To Present Best Actress at Oscars

One of the nicest traditions at the Oscars is that the previous year’s winners are the ones who present the statues to the next wave. A few weeks ago, it seemed like last year’s Academy Award winners were being pushed to the side in favor of supposedly bigger names. However, that proved not to be the case, as with most things involving the 91st Oscar telecast, the decision was met with distain both inside the industry and out. Now, we know exactly how they plan to incorporate Allison Janney, Frances McDormand, Gary Oldman, and Sam Rockwell.

In an exclusive, Deadline is reporting that the four will be paired up to hand out two awards. Instead of the Best Actress winner handing out the prize for Best Actor, and so on, the Academy is trying something different. Now, Janney and Oldman will do Best Actor, while McDormand and Rockwell will do Best Actress.

This could go one of two ways. Either it will make for interesting banter and allow the Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress categories to have notable presenters, or it will seem like short shrift for previous winners. Janney, McDormand, Oldman, and Rockwell deserve another moment in the sun. If this takes away from that, it will be a shame. If it doesn’t end up feeling that way, it could be one of the few decisions by AMPAS not to be worth making a fuss over.

There’s no word yet on what this means for Supporting Actor and Supporting Actress, but this is how it’s going to be with who will present Actor and Actress. Stay tuned for more when we have it.
