There’s little doubt that Michael B. Jordan is one of the best actors of his generation. But now, he’ll be collaborating with one of the greatest actors working today. According to Variety, he will star in “Journal for Jordan,” an upcoming war drama. In addition, none other than Denzel Washington will direct. Meanwhile, Virgil Williams, the Oscar-nominated screenwriter of “Mudbound,” is penning the script.
“Journal for Jordan” is based on a real-life memoir. The novel follows the true story of journalist Dana Canedy and First Sergeant Charles Monroe King who had a love affair. During their affair, King kept a journal full of life lessons for their son, Jordan. King died while he was deployed in Iraq in 2006. But his spirit lives on through his journals.
This is Denzel Washington’s first directorial gig since “Fences” which earned him an Oscar nomination for Best Actor. In addition, he has recently appeared in “Roman J. Israel, Esq.” and “The Equalizer 2” which grossed nearly $200 million worldwide.
As for Michael B. Jordan, he’s having his own successful run. He’s coming off the success of “Black Panther” which garnered a Best Picture nomination. Also, he reprised his role as Adonis Creed in the sequel “Creed II” which was a smash hit. Recently, he wrapped production on the courtroom drama “Just Mercy” and signed on to star in Tom Clancy’s “Without Remorse.”
Aside from starring in the film, Jordan is also producing it through his Outlier Society banner. Washington will serve as a producer on the film as well. Their collaboration should create immense excitement over what sounds like a powerful, poignant story.
