The latest Edgar Wright project is coming together rather quickly. A month ago, we reported that Wright was gearing up to make a psychological horror-thriller as his next film. That hard right turn in genre was exciting enough for fans of his. Now, in addition to knowing that the title is “Last Night in Soho,” some potential casting has come through. As per the usual, Wright is assembling some interesting and high-quality names for his cinematic adventures.
Variety is reporting that Thomasin McKenzie and Matt Smith are in negotiations for starring roles. The former broke through in 2018 with “Leave No Trace” and is a really hot name in Hollywood, while the latter is currently able to be seen on “The Crown.” Wright is directing this and co-wrote it with Krysty Wilson-Cairns, while Focus Features is on board to finance.
From the article:
Details are vague about the psychological horror movie, other than it being set in London’s Soho district. Anya Taylor Joy is also in the cast. Production is expected to start this summer in London.
Wright is coming off of the massive success of “Baby Driver,” so he should be able to get whatever he needs for this film. After his Cornetto Trilogy of “Shaun of the Dead,” “Hot Fuzz,” and “The World’s End,” he’s been trying new things. This continued genre exploration could pay huge dividends. Plus, anything that has McKenzie and Smith in the cast, not to mention Anya Taylor Joy, is one to watch out for. Stay tuned for more on this one as filming aims to get underway in the summer.
