WATCH: New Poster and TV Spot for Live Action Adaptation of ‘The Lion King’

The new adaptation of “The Lion King” is preparing to roar its way to theaters. And to stir up excitement, Disney aired a new TV spot during the Academy Awards last night. The commercial might be similar to the teaser released on Thanksgiving, but that won’t stop Disney fans from being hyped with anticipation.

The classic story from the 1994 animated film remains the same. Simba idolizes his father, King Mufasa, and dreams of inheriting his rule on Pride Rock. However, he must overcome Mufasa’s jealous brother, Scar, who causes Simba’s exile from the kingdom. In the process, Simba must grow so he can become the leader he’s destined to be.

After his adaptation of “The Jungle Book,” director Jon Favreau will bring the same innovative filmmaking style he used on that film to this picture. The way he captures the African savanna already looks jaw-dropping. In addition, “The Lion King” boasts an incredible all-star voice cast.

Donald Glover is the voice of Simba. James Earl Jones reprises the role of Mufasa which he voiced in the animated film. Billy Eichner and Seth Rogen are Timon and Pumbaa while Chiwetel Ejiofor takes on the role of Scar. Megastar Beyonce Knowles-Carter will play Nala. Rounding out the rest of the cast are Alfre Woodard and John Oliver who play Sarabi and Zazu, respectively.

Hans Zimmer, who won the Academy Award for composing the score on the original animated film, returns to score the remake. Meanwhile, Jeff Nathanson wrote the screenplay. His previous film credits include “Catch Me If You Can” and “The Terminal.
