Excellent! Bill (Alex Winter) and Ted (Keanu Reeves) are cinematic characters that no one thought would still be relevant in 2019 when created back in the late 1980s. However, both “Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure” as well as “Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey” have proven to be cult favorites. For years, a “Bill & Ted 3” has been bandied about, but last year, it got serious. Now, production has officially begun.
The Hollywood Reporter has the details, stating that “Bill & Ted Face the Music” has officially begun production. A release date in the late summer of 2020 is currently scheduled. Franchise creators Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon wrote the screenplay, while Dean Parisot is directing. Interestingly, one of the producers here is none other than Steven Soderbergh.
From the article:
The Wyld Stallyns are ready to rock on once more.
Bill & Ted Face the Music has begun production, thirty years after Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter introduced the world to time-traveling rockers Ted “Theodore” Logan and Bill S. Preston Esq.
“We want to say thank you to you the fans,” Reeves said in a message from the Hollywood Bowl, with Winters adding, “We owe you a huge debt of gratitude.”
Face the Music has set a release date of Aug. 21, 2020, and it picks up with the best friends, now middle-aged, as they meet a visitor from the future who warns them only their song can save life as we know it and bring harmony to the universe.
It will also feature the duo’s kids, as Reeves explained recently to The Hollywood Reporter: “I’m sure they can’t help but have a bit of their mothers and fathers in them. So we’ll see how that expresses itself.”
“Bill & Ted Face the Music” will have to work hard in order to recapture the magic that Reeves and Winter once had. They seem up to the challenge though, so this is a sequel that could really turn out to be a lot of fun.
