A24 has released the official trailer for “The Last Black Man in San Francisco.”
The drama won a Special Jury Award and a Directing award at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival and was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize.
“The Last Black Man in San Francisco,” tells the story of a young man who sets out to reclaim his grandfather’s old Victorian home. As the city faces major changes, he longs to hold on to some piece of the past.
Jimmie Fails stars as himself and helped create the story for the screen. He previously appeared in the 2017 short film, “American Paradise.”
Fails reunites with that director for this new feature. Joe Talbot directed and co-wrote the script. It is his first feature film, too, and one that led to his directing award at Sundance.
The film also stars Danny Glover, Jonathan Majors, Rob Morgan, Mike Epps, Tichina Arnold, and Thora Birch.
Talbot’s feature earned instant and immediate praise upon its debut in Park City. It quickly became one of the hottest tickets in town. The critical reaction was widespread in its positive reception and the film currently boasts an 88% on Rotten Tomatoes.
When Talbot accepted his award, he dedicated it to his hometown saying it was, “For San Francisco, man, for all the people fighting to stay in San Francisco.”
A24 will distribute the film, which they co-produced with Plan B and Longshot Features. Academy Award-winning partners Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner produced alongside Talbot, Khaliah Neal, and Christina Oh.
