A very Happy Birthday goes out today to Ewan McGregor. The actor is 48 years old on this day, though you’d never know it by looking at him. On his big day, we want to pay tribute to him, and to do so, we turn to you all. Which of McGregor’s performances so far have been your favorite?
McGregor is probably most highly regarded for a trio of performances. For many, he broke through with “Trainspotting,” though for others it was “Big Fish” or even “Moulin Rouge!” Those latter two allowed him to sniff awards contention. Even though he’s yet to be nominated for an Oscar, the sense has always been that he’s not far away from scoring a citation. Of course, his biggest mainstream success was playing Obi-Wan Kenobi in the three “Star Wars” prequels. Even if they’re not particularly beloved, he was hardly the issue there. In fact, McGregor was one of the few highlights to be found.
Other McGregor turns of note include “Beginners,” “The Ghost Writer,” and “Young Adam.” Plus, there’s also “T2: Trainspotting,” and even “American Pastoral,” which also marked his directorial debut. McGregor has done plenty in the industry, though there’s definitely a sense that there’s lots more for him still to accomplish in Hollywood.
