Universal Pictures and MGM have released the first teaser for the upcoming “The Addams Family” film. We get a glimpse into the crazy, spooky lives of the wonderfully horrific Addams Family. The clip, although a teaser, makes sure we get to know each character and their everyday mundanities.
Greg Tiernan and Conrad Vernon are co-directing the film. The script, written by Matt Leiberman, is adapted from Charles Addams’ original cartoon series. Addams’ peculiar and macabre characters have lived on through many renditions of his cartoon series.
Lieberman’s previous credit screenwriting was for last year’s “The Christmas Chronicles.” The Barry Sonnenfeld-directed version was released in 1991 to over $191 million gross at the domestic box office. It’ll be interesting to see how this newer computer-animated version bodes at the box office.
What Tiernan and Vernon may have going is the star power of an ensemble cast. This includes Golden Globe winner Oscar Isaac “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” as Gomez Addams, Academy Award winner Charlize Theron as Morticia Addams, Chloë Grace Moretz as Wednesday Addams, Finn Wolfhard as Pugsley Addams, Nick Kroll as Uncle Fester, Bette Middler as Grandmama, Elsie Fisher as Margaux, and Academy Award winner Allison Janney as Margaux Needler. The film arguably may have looked better as a live-action outing with the same cast. There’s no denying the parallel aesthetic of Oscar Isaac as the actual Gomez Addams.
The film is being executive produced by Andrew Mittman, Kevin Miserocchi and Joe Earley. According to the synopsis snippet from ComingSoon.net, we follow the Addams Family, “whose lives begin to unravel when they face-off against a crafty reality-TV host while also preparing for their extended family to arrive for a major celebration, Addams-style.”
Charles Addams’ original characters may be brought back to their conceived animated form, but how will this version fare?
“The Addams Family” is slated to release on Oct. 11, just in time for Halloween!
