Disney have released the first official trailer for the upcoming “The Lion King.”

The first teaser back in November gave audiences a glimpse into the timeless story and thee array of visuals. This new trailer proves its potential tenfold as the visual effects look spectacular. Jon Favreau‘s “The Lion King” will undeniably be competing at the Academy Awards for its visual effects, if nothing else.

It boasts immaculate photorealism as close to the traces and textures of its precious African animals. This can remind one of the incredible work done for the “Planet of  the Apes” trilogy. Always the bridesmaid but never the bride. But a king will soon rise and Disney’s retelling of the 1994 classic will certainly be kept on the radar all year long. This makes Disney’s third remake releasing this year. It’s just after Tim Burton’s “Dumbo” and ahead of Guy Ritchie’s “Aladdin.”

It’s a treat to see more of the computer generated savannah, the wide attention to detail and the appearances of familiar faces. “Everything you see exists together in a delicate balance,” Mufasa tells Simba. “While others search for what they can take, a true king searches for what he can give.” The role of the strong patriarch is being reprised by James Earl Jones.

The rest of the stunning ensemble include Donald Glover as Simba, Beyonce as Nala, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Scar, John Oliver as Zazu, and Billy Eichner and Seth Rogen as Timon and Pumba. Eric André, Keegan-Michael Key, Alfre Woodard and Shahadi Wright Joseph also lend their voices.
