The Star Wars Celebration festivities are kicking off in Chicago. Lucasfilm has revealed the first official teaser for the upcoming installment; a much awaited, long gestating reveal.
Director J.J. Abrams and Lucasfilm head Kathleen Kennedy were present at Friday’s panels hosted by Stephen Colbert. The panel revealed the film’s official teaser to the uproariously excited audience. We got first look images of some of the franchise’s best players including Billy Dee Williams (a return to screen 1983’s “Return of the Jedi”), Oscar Isaac, Kelly Marie Tran, Daisy Ridley and John Boyega. The late Carrie Fisher will appear in the film as Leia. In the panel, Abrams confirmed to the room that they will be utilizing unused footage they shot together during “The Force Awakens.”
As Abrams discussed in the panels,
“This movie, in addition to being the end of three trilogies, it also has to work as its own movie,” said Abrams. “It’s about this new generation and what they’ve inherited the light and the dark, and asking the question as they face the greatest evil, are they prepared? Are they ready?”
To top it all off, the panel unveiled the anticipated first look in the form of the goosebumps-inducing teaser trailer which reveals the title. The franchise Twitter handle soon uploaded the teaser clip onto its page. The J.J. Abrams-directed follow up to “The Last Jedi” casts a journey ahead of us that looks enticing for fans. The new trilogy has garnered multiple accolades and citations including many Oscar nominations in categories like Film Editing, Sound Mixing, Sound Editing, and Visual Effects.
Walt Disney Pictures and Lucasfilm will release “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” December 20.
