Pick of the Night

The NBA Playoffs

We are in the midst of the countdown to the NBA finals, and the NBA Playoffs have three games airing tonight. The Toronto Raptors (58-24) take on the Orlando Magic (42-40) at 7 PM on ESPN. The Boston Celtics (49-33) play the Indiana Pacers (48-34) at 8:30 PM on ABC. And finally, the Portland Trail Blazers (53-29) (*On a person note… GO BLAZERS!!) take on the Oklahoma City Thunder (49-33) at 9:30 PM on ESPN. All games are still within the first round, so there is still plenty of basketball to be played in the coming weeks.

What’s Premiering?

Titus Welliver as Bosch

“Bosch” on Amazon

The fifth season of this hit Amazon series premiere’s today. The series follows an L.A.P.D. police officer who is always trying to catch a murdered, including his own mother’s. Titus Welliver, who after years of popping up on so many shows, i.e. “Deadwood,” “Lost,” “Sons of Anarchy,” “The Good Wife,” finally scored his own show and is making the most of it. Welliver gives a gritty performance as the title character in this fast paced mystery-thriller. All seasons are available, so new viewers are encouraged to catch up. For those avid fans, “Bosch” has already been renewed for a sixth season.

“Life in Pieces” at 8:30PM on CBS

“Life in Pieces” is back tonight after almost a year off air. This single-camera comedy digs into the lives of the Short family. They are a quirky group, but the love (and irritation) is palpable. The show is elevated by an outstanding ensemble that includes James Brolin, Dianne Wiest, Colin Hanks and Zoe Lister-Jones. Tonight the show enters its fourth season looking to bolster ratings and get a green light for another season of wackiness.

Movies on TV

Laurence Olivier and Merle Oberon

“Wuthering Heights” at 8 PM on TCM

This is the most famous film adaptation of Emily Bronte’s only novel published in 1847. Most would argue that it is also the best adaptation of her beloved romantic novel. Laurence Olivier plays Heathcliff, with Merle Oberon as his Catherine. The film was released in 1939 and directed by William Wyler. It garnered eight Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture and Best Actor. Gregg Toland won the Oscar that year for Best Cinematography.

“John Wick: Chapter 2” at 8 PM on Spike

This sequel to the 2014 film, “John Wick,” was a hit when it was released in 2017. Keanu Reeves returns as the ex-hitman out seeking revenge. Reeves is most famous for his action films, and the “John Wick” series is one of his best in years The film received mostly positive reviews, with many critics complimenting this film for building on the successes of the first installment. The third installment will be released May 17, 2019, so this would be a great refresher!
