Cannes: ‘Wounds,’ ‘The Lighthouse’ Featured in Director’s Fortnight Lineup

The Lighthouse

Cannes Film Festival announced its official lineup for the Director’s Fortnight slate. As reported on IndieWire, the 2019 lineup features projects from Luca Guadagnino and Robert Eggers. The sidebar event, which runs close by the official selection festival, prides itself in presenting new ideas and voices. It serves as a launching pad for new filmmakers and this year’s lineup includes many to look out for.

The event runs from May 15-25. Rising filmmakers are a key highlight of the event. Previous directors showcased include Spike Lee and Jim Jarmusch (whose film “The Dead Don’t Die” will be premiering in the official selection lineup). Luca Guadagnino will be presenting his short film “The Staggering Girl,” which stars Julianne Moore and Mia Goth.

Robert Eggers is returning to wow audiences after “The Witch” with his new film “The Lighthouse.” Described as a fantasy horror film set in 19th century New England, it stars Robert Pattinson and Willem Dafoe. Certainly, these two leads have been around the eerie and strangest of scripts. Babak Anvari’s mysterious thriller “Wounds,” starring Armie Hammer and Dakota Johnson, is also on the docket. It premiered at Sundance earlier this year and was met with poor-to-mixed reviews.
