A comedy pair made in heaven? Marvel’s Chris Hemsworth teams up with “Girls Trip” star Tiffany Haddish for buddy comedy “Down Under Cover.”
Reported exclusively by Deadline, the two actors will star in the action comedy, reprising the same energy found in similar films such as “The Heat,” “Hot Fuzz” and “Starsky & Hutch.” Aussie native Hemsworth, who is still riding the wave of success from “Avengers: Endgame,” (now sitting at $2.19 billion worldwide) continues to book his comedy prowess into long-term. He recently starred in Drew Goddard’s “Bad Times at the El Royale,” and has had a lot of comedic chops to bare in his recent career. From “Thor: Ragnarok,” Hemsworth now lands again in theaters with the rebooted “Men in Black: International.” Clearly, comedy is a home to him.
From the Deadline exclusive:
In Down Under Cover, Hemsworth will play a detective who goes undercover to crack a series of baffling casino heists in which the prime suspects are a troupe of Australian male erotic dancers. He’s forced to take the partner no one else will — Haddish’s character, a lone wolf who does things only one way: hers. Together they have to work as an unlikely duo to solve the crime of their careers.
Haddish, who has struck stardom as a comedy queen, stars in the upcoming “Secret Life of Pets 2.” She just finished working on Andrea Berloff’s much awaited drama “The Kitchen,” where she’ll tap into more dramatic beats. Haddish also has a Primetime Emmy under her belt for her hosting episode of “Saturday Night Live.” Alongside Hemsworth’s brawny charm, audiences can be thrilled to see the duo tear up laughs onscreen.
“Down Under Cover” is being produced by Thematic Entertainment. The comedy package will be introduced at Cannes by CAA and FilmNation, which will handle all international sales.
