WATCH: First Trailer for James Mangold’s Racing Drama ‘Ford v Ferrari’

Ford v Ferrari

Twentieth Century Fox has released the first trailer for James Mangold’s (“Logan”) “Ford v Ferrari,” starring Academy Award winners Matt Damon and Christian Bale. The biographical drama tells the story of two men who partner up under the Ford wing to compile and construct an unmatched vehicle able to beat out Ferrari at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
The official synopsis:

Academy Award-winners Matt Damon and Christian Bale star in FORD v FERRARI, based on the remarkable true story of the visionary American car designer Carroll Shelby (Damon) and the fearless British-born driver Ken Miles (Bale), who together battled corporate interference, the laws of physics, and their own personal demons to build a revolutionary race car for Ford Motor Company and take on the dominating race cars of Enzo Ferrari at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in France in 1966.

“Ford v Ferrari,” which will no doubt be tech and sound heavy, is Mangold’s latest stretch to the Oscars. His adapted screenplay for “Logan,” shared with Scott Frank and Michael Green, won an Academy Award in 2018. Under the new project’s belt are award season vets Damon and Bale, who inhabit Shelby and Miles as the two put on race-fueled performances to bow.

Damon’s previous leading role was in George Clooney’s comedy crime drama “Suburbicon,” before appearing in a string of uncredited roles including Steven Soderbergh’s “Unsane.” Bale was most recently seen in last year’s Annapurna effort “Vice,” the pointed political drama from Adam McKay, which sealed Bale an Oscar win for his portrayal of vice president Dick Cheney. The cast of Mangold’s forthcoming film also includes Jon Bernthal, Caitriona Balfe, Tracy Letts, Josh Lucas, Noah Jupe, Remo Girone and Ray McKinnon.

The film is produced by Chernin Entertainment and distributed by 20th Century Fox. It is written by Jez Butterworth, John-Henry Butterworth, Jason Keller and Mangold. “Ford v Ferrari” races into theaters November 15. Check out the trailer and poster below.
