Twentieth Century Fox has unveiled the first official trailer for James Gray‘s adventurous space drama “Ad Astra,” starring Brad Pitt. From a hopeful 2018 release, to a May schedule and now, the project has had fans under a blanket of longing. Now slated for a September release, Gray’s follow up to “The Lost City of Z” looks keen for the awards talk as Pitt voyages into space on a mission.
Army Corps engineer Roy McBride embarks on a mission across the galaxy to discover the truth about his father, who disappeared in space 20 years ago while searching for signs of alien life. Though he was once presumed dead, new evidence suggests Roy’s father may still be alive, hiding within an abandoned power plant on a distant planet – and that he could potentially pose a dangerous threat to the entire universe. He uncovers secrets which challenge the nature of human existence and our place in the cosmos.
“Ad Astra” stars Pitt alongside Tommy Lee Jones, Ruth Negga, Donald Sutherland, Jamie Kennedy, John Finn, Kimberly Elise, Bobby Nish, LisaGay Hamilton, and John Ortiz. Gray directs with a script written by himself and Ethan Gross (“Fringe”). As a director, Gray has had many films premiere at Cannes Film Festival. Those include “We Own the Night, ” The Yards,” “Two Lovers” and “The Immigrant.” His new space project is produced by New Regency Pictures and Plan B Entertainment, Pitt’s production company. The trailer shows Gray’s ambitious stride with the sci-fi drama, welcoming adrenaline and curiosity into our protagonist’s odyssey.
