The first red band trailer has been released for Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett’s horror mystery “Ready or Not.” Immediately, the trailer cooks up yet another twist on a playful game. What begins as a beautiful wedding night soon turns into a blood fest chase. It’s a bloody hunt in rich mansions and gives us a funny feeling about in-law bonding.
A bride’s wedding night takes a sinister turn when her eccentric new in-laws force her to take part in a terrifying game.
Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett direct the slasher film, having done work in the past on projects like “Devils Due,” “V/H/S,” and a number of short films. They direct with a script written by Guy Busick (“Watch Over Me”) and Ryan Murphy (“Minutes Past Midnight”). The cast includes Samara Weaving, who starred in “The Babysitter,” and the Oscar-winning film “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.” Weaving is also set to star in the long-adored sequel “Bill & Ted Face the Music” as Thea Preston, Bill’s daughter. The sequel is currently in pre-production.
The cast of the upcoming slasher also stars Golden Globe nominee Andie MacDowell (“Sex, Lies and Videotape,” “Four Weddings and a Funeral”), Mark O’Brien, Adam Brody (“The O.C.”), Henry Czerny, Nicky Guadagni, Melanie Scrofano, Kristian Bruun and Elyse Levesque. With a premise taken from a game, it categorizes into the trend of “Truth or Dare” and “Escape Room,” films that feel surface level unoriginal. Could “Ready or Not” twirl the reputation and make a fun, bloody mockery of the genre?
“Ready or Not” is produced by Mythology Entertainment and Vinson Films. It’s being distributed by Fox Searchlight. The horror slashes into theaters August 23, around other weekend titles “Brittany Runs a Marathon,” “Official Secrets” and “Angel Has Fallen.”
