We’ll soon be arriving to “Downton Abbey” as Focus Features and Carnival Film & Television released nine new character posters have been released for the forthcoming film. The film is an adaptation of the Emmy award-winning television series, which fans have been anticipating since news of its production first went out. The film continues as the series, following the lives of the wealthy Crawley family, and their servants, set in the 20th century.
The television series Downton Abbey followed the lives of the Crawley family and the servants who worked for them at the turn of the 20th century in an Edwardian English country house. Over its 6 seasons, the series garnered 3 Golden Globe Awards, 15 Primetime Emmy Awards, 69 Emmy nominations in total, making Downton Abbey the most nominated non-US television show in the history of the Emmys – even earning a Special BAFTA award and a Guinness World Record for the highest critically rated TV show along the way.
The film is directed by Michael Engler, who’s overseen episodes of television in the past including “30 Rock,” “Unbreakable Kimmy Shmidt,” “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” and many episodes of the “Downton Abbey” series itself. Julian Fellowes, the writer, and creator of the series serves as an executive producer of the film along with Gareth Neame and Liz Trubridge.
The lengthy cast stars Laura Carmichael as Lady Edith, Michelle Dockery as Lady Mary, Robert James-Collier as Thomas Barrow and Michael C. Fox as Andy. Other cast members of the film include Maggie Smith, Tuppence Middleton, Penelope Wilton, Hugh Bonneville, Jim Carter, Brendan Coyle, Kevin Doyle, Joanne Froggatt, and Matthew Goode.
“Downton Abbey” will be in theaters September 20, 2019.
