Pathe UK have released the first full length trailer for Pedro Almodóvar‘s award-winning film, “Pain and Glory.” The film stars Antonio Banderas as an aging filmmaker, now reminiscing on the many facets of his life and the relationships that shaped him. “You haven’t been a good son,” his mother tells him. Banderas plays a stunning portrait similar to the life of the film’s own director.
As his health begins to wane, an aging film director reflects on the relationships and experiences that built his life and rekindles old connections from his past. He struggles to separate his urge to create from the reality of his own life, yet his encounters with his past ultimately lead him towards a better path.
The is Almodóvar’s eighth collaboration with Banderas, whose powerful portrayal in the film garnered him the award for best actor at Cannes Film Festival. Immediately, it put the actor on the fast track for more awards consideration, possibly resulting in the actor’s first Oscar nomination. The actor has been nominated for four Golden Globes in the past, which consider his work in films like “Genius,” “Evita,” “The Mask of Zorro” and the biographical drama, “And Starring Pancho Villa as Himself.” Banderas is now to be awarded with the CineMerit Lifetime Achievement Award at the Munich Film Festival, which runs June 27-July 6.The fest will be showcasing some of the actor’s best known work including the Almodóvar-directed “Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down!”
“Pain and Glory” stars Banderas alongside Penélope Cruz, Leonardo Sbaraglia, Asier Etxeandia, Cecilia Roth, Raúl Arévalo, Julieta Serrano, Nora Navas, Rosalía and Agustín Almodóvar. The biographical drama is produced by El Deseo. StudioCanal is distributing “Pain and Glory” in UK cinemas August 23, while Sony Pictures Classics releases the film in the US October 4.
