“Cold War” star Tomasz Kot is set to play Serbian-American engineer Nikola Tesla in the forthcoming biopic, “Nikola.” As reported exclusively on Deadline, the polish actor will be working under director Anand Tucker, who helmed “Leap Year,” as well as producing the Peter Webber film, “Girl With A Pearl Earring.” The biopic is set to see the last greatest work from the inventor and the whirlwind of his finances and inner demons.
From the Deadline exclusive:
Tucker stated, “Nikola Tesla was one of the most influential and important minds at the dawn of 20th century, and in many ways created our modern world, with its electric cars, instant connectivity through the internet, and global communication. He was also a deeply complex and extraordinary human being. Tomasz is an exquisite actor, and when I saw his extraordinary performance in Cold War there was no doubt in my mind as to who should play Tesla.”
Jovicic added, “We are beyond thrilled to have Tomasz on board. He is the perfect actor for the role and we are so excited to be working together to bring Anand’s terrific script to life.”
Tesla was behind some of electricity’s extensive gifts to society, including the Tesla coil, wireless telegraphy, the induction motor and three-phase electric power. Kot will be portraying the great engineer and futurist, having just filmed on Agata Alexander’s sci-fi thriller, “Warning.” The actor is currently filming on the Polish dramedy, “(Nie) Znajomi,” for native director Tadeusz Sliwa. Kot is most known in the US for his role in Pawel Pawilkoski’s romance drama “Cold War,” which was nominated for three Academy Awards in Best Foreign Film, Best Cinematography and Best Director.
Daria Jovicic (“The Railway Man”) will produce “Nikola” with her Latitude Media company. Peter Touche, Andrea Scarso and Ximo Paris will executive-produce with Tucker’s Seven Stories co-producing.
