A new series hoping to get audiences in the mood for summer loving premieres along with a tribute to a famed icon. Here’s a closer look at what’s on television.

PICK OF THE DAY:

“Mary Poppins Returns” on Netflix

Today’s pick is “Mary Poppins Returns,” the sequel to the beloved 1964 classic. This time around, Emily Blunt plays the titular nanny who arrives to take care of the Banks household. Jane (Emily Mortimer) and Michael (Ben Whishaw) are grown up and financially strapped, while Michael’s children become absorbed in Mary Poppins’ world of imagination. Full of wondrous animation and toe-tapping songs, “Mary Poppins Returns” is indeed a spoonful of sugar.

WHAT’S PREMIERING?:

“Love Island” (CBS) at 8:00 PM EDT

A slight cross between “Survivor” and “The Bachelorette,” “Love Island” looks to be quintessential summer viewing. This reality series follows a group of singles brought together on a villa in Fiji. Each day, they must couple up and whoever doesn’t find a partner is at risk for elimination.

“Farrah Fawcett Forever” (A&E) at 9:00 PM EDT

Ten years ago, actress Farrah Fawcett tragically passed following her battle with cancer, but her status as a pop culture icon will never be forgotten. The biography special “Farrah Fawcett Forever” celebrates her illustrious career including her starring role on the series “Charlie’s Angels” from the 1970s. Interviewees for this special include Oscar winner Robert Duvall and her “Charlie’s Angels” co-star Jaclyn Smith.

“Bring the Funny” (NBC) at 10:01 PM EDT

As it turns out, it’s a big night for new reality shows. While “Love Island” may have viewers feeling flirty, “Bring the Funny” aims to make audiences burst into laughter. “Bring the Funny” showcases judges Kenan Thompson, Chrissy Teigen, and Jeff Foxworthy as they search for the next great comedy act. The show is set to feature a wide range of comics including stand-up comedians and inventive sketch comedy.

MOVIES ON TV:

A double dose of the Steven Spielberg/Tom Hanks filmmaking duo is in store. On MoMAX, “The Terminal” airs at 6:50 PM EDT. In the dramedy, Hanks plays an immigrant named Viktor Navorski who’s forced to stay in an airport terminal due to his country’s collapsing government. During his stay, he becomes friends with people who work at the airport.

Then, at 9:00 PM EDT, “The Post” airs. Based on a true story, “The Post” follows Kay Graham (Meryl Streep), the country’s first female newspaper publisher during the apex of the Nixon administration. Along with editor Ben Bradlee (Tom Hanks), she challenges the U.S. government by attempting to uncover a series of a documents connected to the Vietnam War called the Pentagon Papers.
