A new poster for James Gray‘s “Ad Astra” puts Brad Pitt in the center focus as Twentieth Century Fox prepares to release a new trailer for the film Thursday. Just last month, the first trailer for the space drama landed on the internet, a much-awaited piece of the film that had been put off for some time. Gray’s film was initially slated for a late 2018 release before getting pushed to May 2019, and then rescheduled for its prime September date. Pitt stars in the film along with Liv Tyler, Tommy Lee Jones, Donald Sutherland and Ruth Negga.
Army Corps engineer Roy McBride embarks on a mission across the galaxy to discover the truth about his father, who disappeared in space 20 years ago while searching for signs of alien life. Though he was once presumed dead, new evidence suggests Roy’s father may still be alive, hiding within an abandoned power plant on a distant planet – and that he could potentially pose a dangerous threat to the entire universe. He uncovers secrets which challenge the nature of human existence and our place in the cosmos.
This is Gray’s follow up from his 2016 biographical drama, “Lost City of Z,” starring Charlie Hunnam. He writes “Ad Astra” with “Fringe” writer and story editor Ethan Gross. “Mary Queen of Scots” composer Max Richter scores the film, with Oscar nominated cinematographer Hoyte Van Hoytema (“Dunkirk”) as the film’s director of photography. Check out Awards Circuit’s profile on the film to see how we predict it could contend at the Oscars!
“Ad Astra” is produced by New Regency Pictures and Pitt’s own Plan B Entertainment. It is distributed by Twentieth Century Fox and orbits into theaters September 20.
