Welcome to the Awards Circuit podcast titled “Circuit Breaker! The Awards, Film, & TV Podcast,” a weekly breakdown from AwardsCircuit.com featuring host Clayton Davis along with panelists Sam Coffey, Mark Johnson, Joey Magidson, Chris James, and Karen Peterson. We discuss movies, television and all the awards shows that need predicting. New episodes are released every Monday.
On the agenda:
- Clayton’s mid-life crisis has started! After a night of watching random movie trailers from the 90s, he’s decided to incorporate all those random movie titles into every few segments in the episode. Fair warning: it’s “Dad Joke”-level bad and there’s no shame coming from the East Coast critic.
- Jon Favreau’s “The Lion King” has premiered for critics and we’re divided on the film’s relevance, quality, and what it presents for the future of cinema. The film, which stars Donald Glover, Seth Rogen, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Alfre Woodard, Billy Eichner, Beyonce Knowles-Carter, John Oliver, John Kani, and James Earl Jones, has stunning visuals but is that enough of a reason to remake this, and any other classic Disney films that will come after it?
- Discussing our educated guess for which films will premiere and screen at Venice, Telluride, Toronto, New York, and AFI Film Festivals. We utilize the Oscar Predictions as our touchpoint in making guesses (and suggestions?) on where would be a good spot to premiere certain films for certain studios. This includes “Harriet” from Kasi Lemmons, “1917” from Sam Mendes, “The Irishman” from Martin Scorsese, “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood” from Marielle Heller, “The Goldfinch” from John Crowley, “The Laundromat” from Steven Soderbergh, and more.
