TIFF 2019 Lineup: ‘Joker,’ ‘Ford v Ferrari,’ ‘A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood’ Among Gala Premieres

Toronto International Film Festival have unveiled their 2019 galas and premieres. Among the hot ticket gala presentations are Marielle Heller’s “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood,” James Mangold’s “Ford v Ferrari,” Todd Phillips’ “Joker” and John Crowley’s “The Goldfinch.” The gala presentations closing night film will be Marjane Satrapi’s “Radioactive,” starring Rosamund Pike.

In the special presentations screenings are Ira Sachs’ “Frankie,” starring Elisabeth Huppert, Taika Waititi’s satire “JoJo Rabbit,” Rian Johnson’s whodunit “Knives Out,” Noah Baumbach’s latest with Scarlett Johansson and Adam Driver, “Marriage Story,” Bonh Joon-ho’s Palm d’Or winning “Parasite” and the Safdie Brothers’ post-“Good Time” outing, “Uncut Gems.” Unjoo Moon’s “I Am Woman” is slated to be the special presentations opening night film.

TIFF, known to many as the pivotal stopping point to awards season, is not holding back with its premieres. With a hefty mixture of auteur and mainstream showcases, the Toronto fest is shaping up to carry so many heavyweight awards contenders and international finds.
